Camp Options | Camp Descriptions

This summer, Legacy Christian Academy will be offering students K–8 an opportunity to sharpen, refine, and master a variety of educational and recreational skills through a range of summer camp options. Class offerings include art, drama, athletics, cooking, and more. Sessions will be offered June 17–28, July 8–19, and July 22–August 2.

Camp Descriptions

Kindergarten Readiness

Mrs. Van Dyke & Mrs. Espinoza

Do you want to make sure your child is ready for Legacy’s Kindergarten program? Join our kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Van Dyke (Session 2) and Mrs. Espinoza (Session 3), for a vibrant developmental and academic K-readiness program. Using literature-themed units, children will be captivated with the joy of learning, preview kindergarten skills, and develop habits that will greatly increase their ability to be successful in elementary school. Activities include phonological skills, reading comprehension skills, oral language development, math, and much more! Each week we will focus on a different content area for math, reading, and art. Therefore, you may enroll your child for one or both sessions depending on your summer schedule and available space.

 

1st Grade Readiness

Mrs. Michaud

Please join our very own Legacy first grade teacher, Mrs. Michaud, in a Language Arts and Math preparation class. If you have an interest in continuing to build and refine your child’s reading and math skills over the summer in a fun and enriching environment, then this two-week course is for you! Students will have the chance to review and refine various skills such as reading comprehension with Super Kids, math skills, beginning writing skills through fun and engaging lessons, hands-on activities, games and more!

It is our goal to prepare our students to excel in the classroom, as well as have the opportunity to preview skills taught in first grade. Your child will receive intense instruction in a small, personal, and engaging educational setting. This is a wonderful opportunity to help propel your little one into first grade with confidence!

 

2nd Grade Readines

Mrs. Pekovich

Please join our Legacy second grade teacher, Mrs. Pekovich, in a Language Arts and Math preparation class. If you have an interest in continuing to build and refine your child’s reading and math skills over the summer in an engaging and enriching environment, then this two-week course is for you! In this class, students will review core concepts from first grade and will preview new and foundational concepts needed for second grade success. It is our goal to prepare our students to excel in the classroom, as well as have the opportunity to preview skills for second grade. Your child will receive intense instruction in a small, personal, and engaging educational setting. This is a wonderful opportunity to help send your child into second grade with confidence!

 

3rd Grade Readiness

Miss Kolstad

Please join our Legacy third grade teacher, Miss Kolstad, in a Language Arts and Math preparation class. If you have an interest in continuing to build and refine your child’s reading and math skills over the summer in an engaging and enriching environment, then this two-week course is for you! In this class, students will review core concepts from second grade and will preview new and foundational concepts needed for third grade success. It is our goal to prepare our students to excel in the classroom, as well as have the opportunity to preview skills for third grade. Your child will receive instruction in a small, personal, and engaging educational setting. This is a wonderful opportunity to help send your child into third grade with confidence!

 

Reading Help

Mrs. Beverly Zorichak

Please join special guest and seasoned teacher Mrs. Beverly Zorichak (Miss Zorichak and Mrs. Michaud’s mom) for an exciting time of reading reinforcement! This reading/phonics/spelling course helps the primary grade reader take the next step in learning new phonics sounds and rules by being detectives and solving mystery cases of missing letters. Each child is a secret agent in the Reading Detective Agency. They will be searching for clues and decoding special sounds and rules by using hands-on activities, games, and worksheets to reinforce what they are learning. They will also use their detective skills as a super sleuth while reading a mystery book and completing activities in a book report. This course is for the beginning reader, a student who knows some basic phonics, and is beginning to read.

 

Math Essentials

Mrs. Garber

Please join our Legacy fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Garber, in a math preparation class. If you have an interest in continuing to build and refine your child’s foundational math skills over the summer in an engaging and enriching environment, then this two-week course is for you! In this class, students will review foundational concepts from and will preview new concepts needed for future success. It is our goal to prepare our students to excel in the classroom by reinforcing foundational math skills that they will be building upon in the upper grades. Your child will receive intense instruction in a small, personal, and engaging educational setting. This is a wonderful opportunity to help send your child into fourth & fifth grade with confidence!

 

Middle School Math

Mrs. Foglesong

Is your child about to enter Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1? Join Legacy’s Math teacher, Mrs. Foglesong, for a two-week review of concepts emphasized in Pre-Algebra and Algebra to enhance and strengthen your student's mathematics and reasoning skills. Sign up for this great opportunity to review and be introduced to new concepts over this two-week course. Your child will receive intense instruction in a small setting with personal help to enrich their skills and enter their next math class with confidence!

 

Exploratory Science

Mrs. Saavedra

Does your child love to explore outside? Then join Mrs. Saavedra on a fun science adventure this summer! This two week, field trip based science camp will allow your child to explore local hiking trails and observe all the wonderful nature that God has created in the Santa Clarita Valley. Together, we will create a field journal, learn about native plants and animals, and get some great exercise as we take science class outside!

 

Experimental Science

Mrs. Saavedra

Please join Mrs. Saavedra for a fun time learning all about the scientific method! In this two week summer camp, your student will learn how scientists ask questions about the world around them, and answer those questions by testing a hypothesis. During their first week, your child will be designing and testing their own bottle rocket to see which design can fly the highest! Then, week two will focus on creating different kinds of paper airplanes to see which one can fly the furthest.

Whether you would like to prepare your child for the STEM Expo, or if you would just like them to have some science-based fun, this camp is a great way to keep your student’s curiosity going all throughout summer!

 

Drama Camp

Miss DelVecchio

Does your child love to entertain? Does your child sing everywhere they go? Do they love to make-believe? Then Legacy's drama camp is the place for them! Miss DelVecchio is excited to announce a 2-week performance camp where students will become stronger actors, better dancers, gain confidence, make friends, and have fun doing it! Campers will learn songs, dances, and scenes from beloved Broadway musicals. We will play acting and improvisation games that center around creating a confident, believable performer. They will learn audition techniques, theater etiquette, and the joy of the stage! On the final day, the campers will do a live performance of what they have mastered including songs, dances, and scenes. Sign up today to reserve your student's place on the stage!

 

It’s All Fun & Games

Legacy Staff

Come join our Legacy staff for the time of your life in the class “It’s All Fun & Games!” These two weeks will be spent playing all sorts of indoor & outdoor games, and doing science & cooking activities. There will also be themed dress-up days, movie parties, video game tournaments, waterplay, karaoke parties on the massive LED wall, and so much more. Culinary Arts

Mrs. Tanya Zorichak

Who doesn't love cooking... or better yet, eating!? Students will have the opportunity to do both in Legacy's Summer Culinary Arts Class! In this class, students will learn fundamental cooking skills needed for safety and success in the kitchen through hands-on cooking experiences.

Mrs. Tanya Zorichak (who also happens to be Miss Zorichak and Mrs. Michaud’s sister) has a master’s degree in education with over two decades of culinary experience - both as a middle school Culinary Arts and Life Skills teacher as well as a caterer and event planner. Topics of study would include: Kitchen Safety & Sanitation, Meal Planning & Mise en place, Recipe Reading & Alterations, Measurements & Equivalents, and Food Prep & Presentation.

 

Italian Cooking

Mrs. Daugereau

In this class your student will learn basic skills about cooking and simple Italian dishes. Mrs. Daugereau grew up in Italy, in the beautiful town of Manfredonia, on the South East coast of Italy. Creating delicious Italian cuisine is a love and passion of hers. She is very excited to share this love of Italian cooking with her students.

 

Art

Miss Glenewinkel & Mrs. Wismer

Art is so much more than the final product. This art class will focus on the experience and exploration of different artistic styles, techniques, tools, and materials. Each resulting work of art will be unique and original as there is no right or wrong way to explore and create. The only requirement for this class is imagination. LEGO Masters

Mr. Simer

Does your child love to build with Legos to create epic models? Then the Lego Masters is the summer camp for you! In the first week of this two week summer camp, your young builder will be able to learn the basic building techniques needed to create spaceships, pirate ships, houses, cars, castles, superhero showdowns and many more! Then in week two, their building knowledge will be put to the test in a series of competitions and challenges showcasing their imagination and creativity. Film Making

Mr. Simer

Does your child love movies and visual storytelling? Then Filmmaking is the perfect camp to start making your own! Join Mr. Simer for a 10 day camp in all things film. Your child will learn the basics to edit, write scripts, use a camera, storyboard, act, record sound, and to learn some film history. They will get to work in teams to create amazing short films that we will showcase in a viewing party at the end of the camp! Improv

Mr. Simer

Does your child love using their imagination when they play? Do they love to make up stories? Do they love to make others laugh? Then Comedy Improv is the camp for you! Join Mr. Simer this summer to learn all the basics of improvisational acting through fun and hilarious improv games and scenes where everyone can get involved. Soccer Skills

Miss Williams

Join us this summer for a boys and girls soccer camp to improve your players’ techniques and skills. From beginners to advanced players, our program accommodates all levels, fostering teamwork, confidence, and a love for the game. Each morning will kick off with a specific skill development, followed by a game designed to emphasize the skill of the day. To conclude each session on a high note, we gather for an exciting group scrimmage! This will allow the players to apply their abilities in a dynamic, team-oriented setting. Prepare for a summer of growth, camaraderie, and exciting soccer action!

 

Volleyball Skills

Miss Raitt

Would you like to kick start your volleyball journey? Join Coach Miranda (Randi) Raitt in learning the basics of volleyball. In this 10 day camp, we will go over the basic skills of volleyball from serving to passing, setting, and hitting! Miss Miranda welcomes anyone 5th grade and up, brand new or familiar with the sport, to grow their abilities. This curriculum is designed for players of all skill levels, from novices to experts, encouraging collaboration, self-assurance, and passion for the game. Each day of camp, Coach Miranda will run players through various drills, games, and dynamic skill building exercises to grow all aspects of the sport. We would love to see your player here!
