Why is this a requirement at GCC?

Grace Community Church continually evaluates best practices to protect our most vulnerable members. This is also required by California law AB506.

What if I’m uncomfortable with the background check process and/or training? May I continue to serve in some way?

If you are not able to complete the background check or training, we encourage you to explore other GCC ministries (link https://www.gracechurch.org/ministries) that have a variety of needs.

Can I view my Live Scan results?

Yes, you can request a copy of your results on the Background Check Authorization form, or by emailing us at gccbackgroundcheck@gracechurch.org.

Will I have to pay to get Live Scanned?

Please follow the instructions on Step 1 of the background check process to ensure that you do not pay the Live Scan fee. Using the Certifix voucher and going to a Certifix location (certifixlivescan.com) will ensure that your Live Scan is processed at no cost to you.

What if I do not have a CA driver’s license?

Please visit https://www.certifixlivescan.com/id-documents.html to view other acceptable ID documents for when you go to get live scanned.

What if I have done a Live Scan through my employer or another organization? Can GCC just use my results from that?

Due to privacy law, GCC cannot have access to other Live Scans you’ve completed. You will need to complete a new Live Scan as a potential volunteer for GCC.

What if I work at Grace Community Church? Do I need to complete the background check process again?

If you currently work for GCC, please email gccbackgroundcheck@gracechurch.org for further instruction.

What if I no longer attend Grace Community Church or am not serving with minors or special ministries?

Please contact your ministry leader or email gccbackgroundcheck@gracechurch.org to let us know that you are no longer apart of these ministries.

I completed Steps 1 & 2 and have not received the training to complete Step 3. When will that be sent?

Please allow 1-2 weeks for us to receive your background check results from the DOJ & FBI. Once we receive your results (and all your paperwork has been turned in), we will send the Ministry Safe training to the email address you listed on your Authorization Form or to the email address Membership has on file for you.

What if I have done abuse awareness training through my employer?

Due to the nature of our ministry, our training is specifically geared towards a ministry setting. Therefore, we ask that you still complete the 1-hour Ministry Safe training.

I completed all three steps of the background check process. When can I start serving?

Reach out to the ministry leader of the ministry you are applying to serve with. They will be able to inform you of next steps!

How often will I have to do this?

The Live Scan background check and training will be retained for as long as you are actively serving in a ministry involving minors or those with special needs, or until there is an addition or update in the law. If you choose to step down from a ministry involving minors or those with special needs, please notify your ministry leader, so that your Live Scan will be turned off.

Do minors have to complete a background check or training?

At this time, minors will not be background checked or required to do the training. However, minors wishing to serve in Children’s Ministry must fill out a Youth Application requiring a parent’s signature and ministry leader’s signature. Please contact the ministry leader where you wish to serve to learn about other volunteer requirements (i.e. application process).

Why am I receiving emails from gccbackgroundcheck@gracechurch.org asking if I am still serving?

By law, we are required to conduct a bi-annual self-audit. This means that twice a year (March & September), an email is sent to those with a Live Scan background check on file with GCC. The email will simply ask you to confirm if you are still serving in a ministry involving minors or those with special needs, or not.

The purpose of this audit is for us to maintain clear records of our background checks and for you to be aware that we are still receiving your background check information from the DOJ/FBI.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact your ministry leader, or email gccbackgroundcheck@gracechurch.org.
