The Necessity of Expository Preaching Among the Nations

The church—and all her missions efforts—does not operate according to worldly principles or cultural practices. Only one thing is vital for its efficacy: the unashamed, expositional preaching of God’s Word. Every ministry, methodology, and mission effort flows first from the pulpit that faithfully exposits the teaching of Scripture.

Expository preaching is not a modern methodology; it is a mandate rooted in Scripture by which God has called His imperishable truth to be faithfully proclaimed to His people and carried to the nations. By systematically studying and explaining each verse, expositional preaching affirms the eternal and discernible truth of Scripture as spanning every age and culture. It is the only approach that fully submits to and preserves the infallibility and inerrancy of God’s Word as He intended.

When Scripture is not clearly expounded, the church is left without direction, authority, and spiritual power. But when the Word is preached in its full purity—from careful exegesis to faithful proclamation—ministries are grounded, churches are strengthened, and believers are equipped “for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

Yet over decades of theological decline, many churches have weakened their commitment to this foundational practice, exchanging sound preaching for pragmatics and programs. Rather than serving as the vehicle for divine truth, the pulpit has too often been molded to experience-driven, ear-tickling approaches that conform to the tastes of man rather than the intentions of God. As a result, the church in many places has grown increasingly apathetic and worldly, leaving itself vulnerable to the pressures of the present age.

For this reason, any church that desires to maintain a strong and faithful testimony must defend Scripture as its highest authority. When the Word of God is preached with clarity and conviction, believers live out the “one anothers” of Scripture, ministries are stabilized, and congregations are unified. A church anchored in the primacy of Scripture is a living and maturing body—equipped to model the gospel faithfully before the world.

For five decades, our beloved pastor and friend John MacArthur exemplified this unwavering commitment to the exposition of Scripture—a legacy that has borne fruit in the global church. At The Master’s Academy International, we have witnessed God extend our ministry around the world as we train the next generation of church leaders in this legacy of expository preaching.

To honor this legacy and continue its message, this year’s TMAI International Symposium theme is “Imperishable: The Necessity of Expository Preaching Among the Nations.” Together, we will hear keynote speakers H.B. Charles Jr., Alexey Kolomiytsev, and David Robles address the efficacy, urgency, and necessity of expository preaching across the globe. We invite you to join us as we learn how the Lord is at work among the nations—so that every church may be firmly planted on the imperishable Word of God.
