“Twenty-twenty” is a term used to express perfect visual acuity measured at a distance of twenty feet. Someone with twenty-twenty vision can see clearly, at twenty feet, what should normally be seen at that distance. This is the benchmark for accurate focus. The 2020 Shepherds’ Conference theme “Twenty Twenty Vision” carries the same idea. It is vital to maintain our focus through the lens of Scripture so that we can continue to see God’s standards accurately.
We are living in a critical time when there is a great need for doctrinal clarity. As the culture redefines the church, there is a growing unwillingness on the part of pastors and elders to stand by what they know is sound doctrine. Standing for the truth in this climate of compromise requires courage rooted in clarity. In 1 Corinthians 16:12–14, where the apostle Paul wrote, “act like men, be strong,” he could have been speaking to this generation. The Bible calls believers to confront the culture rather than accommodate it—especially those in positions of leadership. In the midst of a darkening culture, it is absolutely critical that we have strong men preaching sound doctrine in strong churches.
This makes Shepherds’ Conference 2020 perhaps the most strategic and important conference we have had in many years. Since 1980, the mission statement of Shepherds’ Conference has been, “to provide the opportunity for men in church leadership to be challenged in their commitment to biblical ministry and to find encouragement together as servants of our chief Shepherd.” By the grace of God and with the help of our church family, we will continue to focus on this mission statement with excellence.
Our prayer is that this conference will be transformative—that each message, breakout session, and casual conversation will help focus the hearts and mind of our attendees on the truth they have been called to proclaim. With this in mind, we hope you will be challenged and encouraged to pray for, financially support, and serve at Shepherds’ Conference 2020.
